What is a CV

A curriculum vitae (CV), also known as a resumé, is defined generally as a document containing a summary or listing of relevant job experience and education, usually for the purpose of obtaining an interview when seeking employment. Often the resumé or CV is the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker, and therefore a large amount of importance is often ascribed to it.

Curriculum vitae is Latin meaning “course of life” and resumé is French meaning “summary”. A resumé more often has a free-form organizational style and is used for seeking employment in the private sector, whereas a curriculum vitae (also called vita) usually has a more standardized look and format for the purpose of seeking positions in academic or educational institutions. Another difference is that a resumé tends to be more descriptive and tailored for a specific purpose or target audience, whereas a curriculum vitae tends to be organized in a way that presents data about one's self in a compact fashion, with a clear chronology.

Overview of the Application

The module mainly has a definition wizard that sets up and generates a CV standardized form, which will be used by the employees to fill in standard field data such as the educational institutions attended, degrees received, positions held, professional affiliations, etc. The various data fields are easily customizable and can be defined and arranged by the administrator of the application and includes several sections.

The main identity details like the complete names, date of birth, gender, contact details etc. are an essential section to be obligatorily present. The Professional Experience section, starting from the most recent experience going chronologically backwards through a succession of previous experience, works to build credibility through experience gained, while illustrating career growth over time. The actual periods of each employment can be specified in the From and To fields, along with the type of position held and the main responsibilities etc. There is another section where the person's professional and social skillset and competencies etc. can be specified. Finally there is a section for entering details of the employee's hobbies and interests which is optional.

Once the form setup is complete, one can start the process, so that recipients start entering the latest details. Finally the completed CV form is attachable to the other modules of the application suite such as the Appraisals Manager and the 360 degree Feedback module thereby offering access to the important data about the employee(s) from within these other applications.


The effective usage of this application in conjunction with the other tools like the Appraisals Manager will offer the benefits of:

  • Accessing the always-updated CV details of an employee online at any desired time.
  • Having them online also facilitates distribution to multiple managers via Internet.
