In a press conference organized in Bangalore on February 17th 2009, Energy Minister K S Eshwarappa announced that the Karnataka State government would take up reforms to reduce the aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses of power distribution companies, in as many as 99 towns across the State, under the centrally-aided Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP).
He spoke about power distribution in Karnataka and use of GIS, and that all the Discoms of Karnataka would take up GIS mapping of their assets, in continuation of the project already implemented successfully in Mysore. The GIS project in Mysore referred to here, has been implemented by Reli-e-Marg.

A Power Sector Conclave for the Southern Region of India was conducted under the aegis of Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), by the Ministry of Power, Government of India on September 9th and 10th at Hotel Atria, Bangalore. The aim of the Conclave was to review the developments under APDRP-2 reforms during the 11th Plan, and was chaired by the Principal Secretary for Power, Joint Secretaries, the heads of Power Finance Corporation, and the T&D utilities in the Southern Region states.
Reli-e-Marg was invited to present a paper on how their products for the Power utilities could help in implementation of APDRP-2 for the T&D utilities in the Southern Region states of India. The presentation focussed on the range of OpenNIS™ software applications offered by Reli-e-Marg and their partner Cascade, the areas of operations in the utilites where they could help and a case study of actual implementation and experiences in CESC utility. A live demo of the grid operations on a stand-alone system as well as on PDA was performed.
The highlight of the presentation was how field data for e.g. poles, transformers etc. and consumer indexing could be easily collected real-time with DGPS instruments and integrated into the grid database with minimal effort, using the OpenNIS™ applications.
